A bit of history

Sea buckthorn is a hardy, unpretentious tree (or bush) that grows and bears fruit both in the subtropics and in the tundra regions. Lives up to 100 years (in colonies), is not afraid of diseases or pests.

The ancient Greeks knew about the beneficial properties of sea buckthorn - Pliny, Plutarch, Ovid. The origin of the name Hippóphaë rhamnoídes - buckthorn buckthorn (lat.), Associated with an interesting legend. The troops of the ancient Greek commander Alexander the Great in their endless campaigns greatly appreciated horses, but they were often sick, losing strength.

Once Alexander noticed: if you give the animals a decoction of the branches, leaves and fruits of the sea buckthorn, the horses recover their strength very quickly, and all their wounds heal quickly, and the wool shines again. Therefore, it is the Latin name for sea buckthorn that comes from two words: hippos - horse and phase - shine.

A very useful berry and medicinal plant was also appreciated by the Slavs. Syrups, compotes, preserves, infusions were known to everyone, and local healers always gave her a place of honor. But the first publication about the "miracle berry" belongs to the Russian academician Pallas P.S. (1793).

Why, in some provinces of Russia, sea buckthorn got the name "bad guy" (truly, you can't please everyone). A significant impetus in the study of sea buckthorn was made by the "works of the Free Economic Society" (1850).

And later, in the 30s of the twentieth century, many scientific and outstanding scientists became interested in sea buckthorn (I. V. Michurin, N. I. Vavilov, P. S. Pallas, R. I. Schroeder, A. V. Gursky. then the composition of biologically active substances contained in this unique plant was discovered.

The composition of sea buckthorn fruits includes various biologically active substances: sugar (up to 7%), organic acids, vitamins (C, E, B1, B2, PP, K, P, folic acid, carotene - provitamin A), flavonoids, micro- and trace elements (potassium, calcium, silicon, iron, manganese, boron).

Truly a multivitamin plant! Seeds (drupes) contain up to 12% fatty oil. The bark and leaves of sea buckthorn also have medicinal properties, which include flavonoids, tannins (tannins), phytoncides - they determine the special healing properties of sea buckthorn.
